Haven't been paid for work performed on a vehicle?
If you own or operate an auto repair business or collision shop, and were not paid for work performed on a vehicle, then you can apply for title under state laws. Even if the vehicle has a lien holder you are still entitled to payment. In some states you can collect storage charges, tow charges, and even administrative fees.

How long does it take to get a clear Florida title?
Most Florida titles take about 18 days to process however, the length of time may vary depending on the number of days the vehicle has been at your repair shop, the county you are located in, and the time it takes the Tax Collector (DMV) to process your title work.
What if the vehicle has a lien holder?
Florida law requires us to notify all parties who have an interest in the vehicle including lien holders. Once a lien holder has been notified of the repairs they have until the auction day to pay all monies due before retrieving the vehicle. In our experience, most lien holders do not retrieve the vehicle due to associated costs and vehicle market values.
Can I collect storage charges plus the repairs?
Yes, Florida law allows a repair shop to collect storage charges in addition to the repairs made on the vehicle. Storage charges may vary with the average being $35.00 per day. In some instances you may be able to charge recurring fees for storage.
Can I get a title if the vehicle was not repaired?
Yes, if you have fees associated with diagnostic testing, towing or estimates then you can include those fees along with storage fees and apply for a title.
What if the vehicle is retrieved?
If the repaired vehicle is retrieved by the customer, owner, or lien holder then a balance of $200.00 is due. When we begin your title work we incur costs associated with legal notices, legal advertisement, and administrative fees at our own expense. We encourage you pass these costs onto your customer and collect the $200.00 fee when the vehicle is retrieved to cover our expenses.
Do I pay Florida sales tax when I get my title?
No, you are not required to pay any sales tax. The title will be issued in the name of your repair shop. If you sell the vehicle or transfer it to your personal name then a Florida sales tax on the purchased amount would apply to the purchaser.
My repair order is not signed by the Customer?
Florida law does NOT require a repair order to be signed by the customer. Ninety-five percent of the repair orders we submit to DMV for title are not signed. Oral consent is sufficient to obtain a vehicle title.
When do I pay for my new title?
It costs you nothing to start the process, we pay all the up-front fees. Once we have sent proper notifications and recorded all legal documents we will invoice you for payment. After we receive your payment we will forward your new clear Florida title.
